Is it really as addictive as they say?
Most people that smoke as adults started smoking as teenagers; the good news if there is any is that kids do not start smoking until they are around 16 years old. It is parents that smoke that causes kids to smoke as well as peer pressure. These two are the most common reasons why kids smoke, they do not think about the health reasons or the addictiveness behind nicotine, they just think that it is cool or they smoke because everyone else does it.
Whether it is really addictive it does really kill, tobacco kills more than 400,000 Americans a year and there is 1 out 5 deaths as a result of smoking. Smoking doesn't just affect the lungs but it causes damage to almost every organ in the body and it does compromise the person's health. Nicotine is just a component or a part of the tobacco but it is the reason why it is addicting. Since cigarettes have additional additives such as tar, carbon monoxide and more.
Cigarettes have about 10 milligrams of nicotine in each one, since the smoker only inhales some of the smoke from the cigarette and not all of the tobacco is breathed in, the smoker really only gets about 1 to 2 milligrams of nicotine. Even though it is not the same amount as the 10 milligrams that are in each cigarette but it is enough for someone to become addicted. It is hard to believe though that the nicotine is not the most harmful part of the cigarette, there are over 4000 chemicals in the cigarette that are more dangerous than the nicotine but it is the nicotine that brings them in.
Experts are studying more the nicotine and the addiction to it so they can create better treatments with medications to help smokers quit. So far the only methods that are used in quitting smoking are cold turkey, nicotine patch and gum and hypnosis and other kids of therapy. When we say addicted, we mean that people whether teenagers or adults have the compulsion to seek out and use tobacco such as cigarettes, cigars, pipes and even smokeless cigarettes are addicting. They do not take into consideration how bad smoking is to their health and though most smokers claim they try to quit some do but start up about a week later.
Nicotine is very addicting and not everyone who smokes is successful. You really have to have a strong determination to stop and a good reason such as a pregnancy or perhaps you have asthma or other respiratory ailment that smoking will affect if you do not stop. If you want to stop smoking, contact your doctor, do not try to do it on your own, do it under a doctors care they may be able to help you plan a smart plan on how to stop. It is about your health and the health of everyone else that is around you since second hand smokes can be just as dangerous as the person who is smoking.
