Forms of tobacco (tobacco products)

There are many different types of tobacco products aside from the good old cigarette. Here is a glossary of sorts to help you understand the different types of tobacco products there are out there in the world.

Bidis

These are very small cigarettes that are all hand rolled and then imported top the United States from India and Southeast Asian countries. The Bidis are made with tobacco that is wrapped in a tendu or a temburni leaf, which are found native to Asia. The cigarette is usually secured with a colorful string at either end and they come in different flavors such as chocolate, cherry, grape and mango. Or if you prefer they come in unflavored.

The Bidis are carcinogenic which means they have nicotine and there are not any safer than standard cigarettes. These hand rolled cigarettes are associated with a risk for oral, lung and stomach cancer.

Cigarettes

The cigarette is a combination of the cured and finely cut tobacco and reconstituted tobacco with additives that are rolled or stuffed into a paper wrapper. The cigarettes have a filter on only one end. There are over 4,000 different chemicals that are found in the tobacco and even in tobacco smoke. There have been studies that have shown that smoking has links to cancer of the bladder, oral cavity, larynx, kidney, lung and stomach. It is also been known to be associated with heart disease as well as stroke.

Cigars, Cigarillos and Little Cigars

The majority of cigars are produced with a single type of air cured or dried tobacco. These leaves are aged for about a year and then they are fermented within a multi step process that can take any where from 3 to 5 months. The regular cigars are bigger than cigarettes and they do not have a filter. The little cigars are flavored like Bidis like the chocolate, cherry, grape and apple. They are sold in packs of 20.

The Cigars have a larger level of nicotine than the standard cigarette and those who do inhale the cigar the nicotine is then absorbed ion the lungs as fast as it is does with cigarettes. If you do not inhale then the nicotine is taken in more slowly than through the lining of the mouth. There have been studies that have shown that cigar smoking has been linked with cancer of the mouth, lips, tongue, throat, lungs and pancreas just to name a few.

There are a few other types of tobacco products such as the dissolvable tobacco where the tobacco once it is places in the mouth dissolves quickly and then you have the electronic cigarette, this is a battery powered cigarette that has a cartridge that is filled with nicotine and flavor but does not have a nicotine delivery system.

For whatever reason that you smoke tobacco products the end result is that most of these products cause cancer. You should look for other avenues that are safer for you health.
